DENISE Fish, the head of midwifery at Furness General Hospital, was to retire after 42 years in the National Health Service.

HOLIDAY firm South Lakeland Parks was spending £1m to improve three of its luxury sites at White Cross Bay in Windermere, Fallbarrow Park at Bowness and Limefitt Park in the Troutbeck Valley.

BARROW'S James Bibby lifeboat was being retired after 196 launches and 21 years of service. The replacement was a £2.5m Tamar class boat called the Grace Dixon.
