THE 17th St Perran's Scout Pack was awarded £6,900 from the Barrow Community Trust to upgrade its meeting hall on Yarlside Road, Holbeck, Barrow.

BARROW Town Hall was organising a carnival weekend in June to mark the end of Healthy Barrow events.

ULVERSTON Outsiders were getting ready to present the William Shakespeare play Macbeth at the Coronation Hall. Robin Tyford played the title role with Julie Lloyd as Lady Macbeth.

CONISHEAD Priory, near Ulverston, was offered a grant of £102,000 by English Heritage to help with major restoration work. The priory had been built by Colonel Thomas Braddyll in 1821.

MAINTENANCE workers could earn up to £16 and 13 shillings (£13.65) a week from the Central Electricity Generating Board at Barrow's Roosecote Power Station.

A DEPUTATION from Haverigg held talks with Millom Council about the impact of flooding in the village at times of high tide. Clement George, of Seaview, Haverigg, said 130 houses had been flooded this month and damage was estimated at £25,000.
