MORE than 1,000 people had signed a petition in support of the reopening of the Berners pool in Grange. It was handed over to outgoing mayor Mark Hadwin at a meeting of Grange Town Council.
A DARTS marathon lasting 32 houes was to take place at the Dirty Duck, in Raglan Street, Barrow, to raise funds for cancer and diabetes charities. A total of 19 players were to take part.

WORK started on the redevelopment of Dalton's Weint Corner to create a better environment. The £1,500 facelift was part of the Civic Trust's environmental week.

ALBERT Nix, the postmaster for Barrow, was to combine the role with Ulverston later in the year. His new title would be head postmaster Furness. There were plans to put Grange under the control of the Lancaster postmaster.
CHAPTER Five and The Lykes of Witch provided the music for a dance at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston. Admission was five shillings (25p).
