MYSTERY surrounds the latest appearance from The Smiths covers band Girlfriend & A Korma.

The local band will be playing a secret show "somewhere in Barrow" on Friday June 24 - but details will not be revealed until just before the show.

Organised as a warm-up to their big gig at The Nines next month, playing the Queen Is Dead album played in full to celebrate its 30th anniversary, this gig is said to be a more intimate performance and space will be limited.

Among the new songs the band are playing for the first time will be William it was Really Nothing, You’ve Got Everything Now, Nowhere Fast and I Want The One I Can’t Have, as well as selected tracks from the Queen Is Dead, including The Boy With the Thorn in His Side, and Frankly Mr Shankly.

The experienced band is fronted by Gary Robinson, an ex member of bands such as The Smashers and former owner of The Canteen, in the guitarist and vocalist role, with Eddie Honda taking the role of drummer, well-known local performer Tony Kavanagh of Electra Rapide on lead guitar, and well-travelled bassist Peter Balmer, who has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall and toured the States with Fad Gadget, completing the line-up.

Girlfriend & A Korma launched last summer, and met with strong reviews for their series of local dates - including a high-profile joint-headliner alongside Beatles band Dig A Pony in December.

Having started out as a trio, they have fleshed out the band to a four-piece to offer the full Smiths experience, and live shows are also accompanied by well-suited visuals.

Support for tomorrow's show will come from recently-formed Barrow indie rock band Resuscitate.

All the details will be revealed to followers of the band's Facebook page at 7pm on Friday, with the gig to start at 8.30pm.
