CARNIVAL Day in Ulverston is just the latest in a string of huge dates in the festival town's calendar, but for many, it's the big one.

Away from the parade, which brings thousands of families and visitors to the town, the Saturday event is also another excuse for music lovers to celebrate.

Two venues going big this weekend are Amigos and The Sun Inn - having both been involved in July's Another Fine Fest.

In the courtyard at the Mexican restaurant in Cavendish Street, from 1pm until late, will be a line-up of DJs and live bands.

Sonic Zoo Radio cranks up its heavyweight soundsystem once more, for sets from DJ Gripper, DJ Spoovoy, Ste Tyson, the Sonic Glue DJs, and Baerou Tapes, covering Afro Latin vibes, funk, dub, eclectica, alternative styles, jazz, disco, and psych, and mixing contemporary flavours and stone cold classics.

Two of Barrow's leading live acts are also involved, with acoustic-driven indie band Freshman set to perform, playing their self-penned tracks from their debut album, and recently-reformed instrumental rock trio Crane following up a couple of strong comeback shows with another appearance.

Down the road at The Sun Inn, the headline name is London garage DJ Mikki Funk.

Having released his long-awaited first vinyl EP - The Vibe Coalition, on Made Fresh Daily Recordings and featuring French maestro Kool Vibe - in 2012, he was quickly lauded as one of UK house and garage's rising stars. Never one to stick with just one style or sound, Mikki loves to switch it up with a variety of flavours in his productions and live sets. Liaison and Mi Casa DJs will also be appearing at the venue, with music also getting under way around 1pm.
