A NOSTALGIC ride on the buses of the past is offered on Sunday, May 28, when the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Group hosts its annual bus running day in Morecambe.

There will be a free bus service between Carnforth and Heysham Village, via Morecambe promenade.

Buses will be on display on the promenade close to the Midland Hotel and on the Festival Market car park, opposite Morrisons.

The bus service starts from Morecambe to Carnforth at 10.45am and to Heysham at 10.40am.

First departures from both Carnforth and Heysham are at 11.15am.

Services begin to wind down after 5pm, with last buses at 6pm from Carnforth and 17.45pm from Heysham.

There is also a Bare Circular service using older double deckers and afternoon ‘mystery tours’ using a vintage half cab coach.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "All available buses from the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Group collection will be on display or in service and there will be guest vehicles from a variety of Lancashire operators plus a few from further afield.

"This has proved to be a popular event over the years so do come along and join us."

The group was formed in 1972 by enthusiasts keen to preserve examples of older Ribble vehicles before they were scrapped.

Ribble Motor Services once ran bus services from Both Barrow and Ulverston.
