CHICAGO blues will be the soundtrack at the Barrow R&B Club this week courtesy of North West favourites The Stumble.

The six-piece band will be appearing at Bar Continental, in Abbey Road, having appeared at the club just over a year ago.

Based in Preston, they play music heavily based on the rapturous electric blues guitar sound that emanated from Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s, and are heavily influenced by the likes of BB King, Freddy King, Muddy Waters, Maceo Parker, Peter Green, Booker T and King Curtis.

The Stumble were formed in the 1990s by Boyd Tonner and Colin Black. Paul Melville takes up vocals, with Black on guitar and harmonica, Tonner on drums, Simon Anthony Dixon on sax, Cameron Sweetnam on bass, and newcomer Ant Scapens on lead guitar making up the formidable six. Over the years they have featured on the bill at all the major North West festivals, including a main stage appearance at the Carlisle Blues Festival.

They have since released three albums and their latest, Lie To Me, received critical acclaim from Blues Matters magazine.

The set-list features primarily their own material, covering swing jazz blues as well as slower material.

The gig on Friday February 12 starts at around 9pm. Entry is payable on the door.
