BARROW Raiders hero Chris Hankinson reckons dad Gary is ready to take up the gauntlet of attempting to kick a 45-metre penalty in a fun shoot-out at Craven Park on Sunday.

If he does so, he will emulate his son’s heroics at Keighley last Sunday when he struck the dramatic winner after the final hooter to hand Barrow a memorable 34-32 win over their League One rivals.

Raiders will be looking for a good response for the Hankinson Half-time Challenge during the break in the League One game against Oxford as they celebrate the club’s last-gasp victory over the Cougars.

A signed Barrow rugby ball is up for grabs to anyone who can convert a goal from a similar position to where Hankinson succeeded in West Yorkshire.

Hankinson, who kicked the points from just inside the Keighley half, close to the touchline, is hoping Barrow get a good response from spectators, and said: “Even my dad said he wanted to have a go at it because he said it would be fun if he could, but I don’t think he’ll reach the 10-metre line to be honest!”

The Leigh loan player added: “It’s a bit of fun and it gives people an idea of what it is like with others watching you.

“But I would advise people to bring some boots if it’s going to keep raining.”
