Emily Wright and Guy Richardson

EMILY Wright, 27, an artist from Pocklington, York, and Guy Richardson, 27, an occupational therapist, originally from Kendal, and now of Pocklington, York, married at St Thomas’ Church, Crosscrake, Kendal.

HOW THEY MET: The couple met in March 2004 on the dance floor of the Student Union at Loughborough University. The bride was studying there at the time and the groom, studying at Leeds Metropolitan University, was in Loughborough for a night out with friends. The bride was celebrating her birthday in pirate fancy dress and the groom was in cowboy fancy dress, the two kissed on the dance floor and the rest, as they say, is history.

PROPOSAL: The groom proposed in the living room of their flat in front of the Christmas tree on Christmas Day 2009. He placed the ring inside a larger present box which the bride was instructed to open last. When the bride opened the larger box and found the smaller ring box, the groom got down on one knee and “popped the question”.

VENUE: St Thomas’ Church, Crosscrake, Kendal.

THEME: Traditional English tea party.

BRIDE’S OUTFIT: The bride wore a strapless, A-line, ivory lace dress with delicate beading that glistened in the sunlight. The dress from Broughtons Bridals in Shadwell, Leeds, depicted a real vintage elegance. Her make up was by Rachel Winter who completed a beautiful natural look. Hair, a 60s inspired half up, half down bee hive was created by Toni & Guy, Kendal.

GROOMSMEN: The best man was Sam Hall and the ushers were Liam Humphreys and Simon Paine. They wore their own suits with matching Champagne ties and Amnesia rose button holes.

BRIDESMAIDS: The bride’s friend, Patricia Green, and groom’s sister, Jane Hall, were bridesmaids. They wore dresses in shades of duck egg blue and teal with bouquets of Amnesia roses.

FLOWERS: The bride carried a bouquet of Avalanche and Amnesia roses, lisianthus and sweet peas in shades of pink, hand tied together with vintage lace. The groom wore a pink Avalanche rose button hole that complemented the bride’s bouquet. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were Amnesia roses. The church and reception venue flowers were a mix of roses and lisianthus. The bouquets, button holes, church and reception venue flowers were created by Claire at Flowers by Popplemire. Home grown cosmos and lavender also decorated the reception venue, adding scent and the personal touch.

TRANSPORT: A 1935 Rolls-Royce from Parkers Wedding Cars of Kendal.

RECEPTION: A marquee reception at High Bracken Hall Farm, Gatebeck, Kendal. The marquee and interior dressing was provided by Abstract Entertainment. An afternoon tea party was created by Wilf’s Café, Staveley.

TABLE SETTING: A mixture of vintage crockery collected by the family and hired from Scarlet Ribbon, Windermere. Cutlery, tea and coffee pots were hired from Heaves Hotel, Levens.

FAVOURS: The groom chose the favours based on his favourite after dinner treat; a Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer with a Farrer’s Lakeland Special Tea bag.

CAKE: The cake was made by the bride’s aunt and was a four-tier, traditional organic fruit cake, finished with crisp white icing, decorated with hand crafted sugar roses and vintage lace.

ENTERTAINMENT: Frozen Gin, a three-piece folk band, followed by a disco provided by Abstract Entertainment. Prior to the evening’s entertainment the field hosting the marquee provided the perfect location for friends and family to socialise, enjoy the Lakeland views and for children to play with bubbles provided by the bride and groom.

FIRST DANCE: The couple had their first dance to Let’s Stay Together by Al Green.

HONEYMOON: A thatched cottage in Aberaeron, Cardigan Bay, West Wales.

PHOTOGRAPHER: Rachel Winter Photography Ltd.
