Alison Bates and Brett O’Shea

ALISON Bates, 29, an accounts assistant from Dalton, married Brett O’Shea, 30, a self-employed air conditioning installer from the Gold Coast, Australia, on December 12, 2012. The couple live in the Gold Coast.

How they met: The couple first met five years ago at a mutual friend’s housewarming party. They met again four months later in a nightclub in Surfers Paradise and decided to go on a date the following evening to the movies.

Proposal: The groom proposed at the top of the Sir John Barrow monument, in Ulverston, on a holiday to England in 2011.

Venue: The ceremony and reception were held at Springbrook Mountain Manor, in Springbrook National Park, Gold Coast, Australia. The couple were married at 12pm on 12.12.2012.

Theme: Purple and black, incorporating Lake District themes.

Bride’s outfit: The bride wore a Mia Solano white, strapless A-line gown with a slight sweetheart neckline, purchased from Luv Bridal, in Mudgeeraba, on the Gold Coast.

Groomsmen: Father-of-the-bride was Harry Bates from Dalton, the best man and usher, Karl Hohenhaus and Andrew Bray, were the groom’s school friends. They all wore grey suits with black ties from Formal Wear Express, on the Gold Coast.

Bridesmaids: Sabine Hohenhaus was chief bridesmaid, and Renee Coleman was a bridesmaid. They wore black, three-quarter length dresses with spaghetti straps. The couple’s daughters, Abigail Lucie, aged two-and-a-half and Isabella Daisy, aged one, were flower girls. They wore matching white dresses and carried white, diamante baskets filled with rose petals. Abigail carried the rings on a small white cushion and her favourite teddy ‘Buddy’ went along for the ride.

Flowers: The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of Silvery Moon and white roses with diamante. The bridesmaids carried smaller versions. The groomsmen wore buttonholes of Silvery Moon roses.

Transport: The bride’s boss supplied his luxury Range Rover Sport.

Reception: The wedding breakfast was served in the Manor’s dining room. Guests were served an alternate drop of mushroom risotto or Thai beef salad for starter and roasted chicken or steak for main course. During the evening a selection of the Manor’s homemade woodfire pizzas were also served.

Table settings: Tables were decorated with mirror plates each holding three pillar candles, diamante and rose petals. A table held the birdcage wishing well and photographs of deceased grandparents who could not be with the couple. The three tables were named, ‘Buttermere’, ‘Windermere’ and ‘Grasmere’ and each had a short passage about the name to describe the place to non-English guests.

Favours: Instead of place cards the guests’ names were printed on the front of their individual favour box containing a small packet of Love Hearts and a piece of individually wrapped, chocolate-covered Kendal Mint Cake.

Cake: A two-tier Marble Mud Cake, with raspberry swirl and Jaffa, topped with a customised candle figurine. The cake was served as the dessert with berries and cream.

First dance: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. The couple were joined halfway through by the wedding party and the song then broke into the chorus of Gangnam Style .

Entertainment: The bride and groom chose all the songs which were played through the Manor’s sound system.

Honeymoon: Three nights in Port Douglas and three nights in Cairns, tropical Queensland.
