Dreams of a new film festival across Morecambe Bay have been made a reality after organisers received extra funding.

The team at The Bay International Film Festival (TBIFF) announced on Tuesday, May 14 that they had been given a new grant from Ulverston Town Council.

The first stop on the tour this summer will be Ulverston with more destinations set to be announced in the lead up to the hotly anticipated event.

A spokesperson from the festival said: "This grant will enable us to turn our dream of an 'Around the Bay mini-tour' into reality.

"Thank you for your ongoing support - together, let's keep the magic of cinema alive in our community."

The festival announced at the same time that its showcase in Ulverston will be done in collaboration with the Roxy Cinema.

"Teaming up with The Roxy Collective, we're gearing up to bring you an unforgettable cinematic experience," said organisers.

"Get ready for a showcase of our best short films, along with thrilling Q&As with some talented filmmakers.

"Don't miss out on this event - we'll keep [everyone] posted once we confirm the dates and start selling tickets."

This is just the first step along the road for organisers at the festival, with hopes that this year can see it grow to the next level through local support.

They added: "Not-for-profit organisations like ours rely heavily on local and national grants to bring cinema experiences right to your doorstep.

"This year, we're also seeking to develop relationships with local sponsors - such as businesses that are passionate about supporting the arts and community."

The festival has grown to be an annual event, largely based in the Morecambe area in the northwest.

It aims to promote international independent films across Lancashire and Cumbria, as well as putting the northwest on the cultural map.

Businesses considering supporting the festival are encouraged to contact the team by emailing info@thebayfilmfestival.com.
